Olink Bioscience, Company Information

Olink AB is a privately held biotech supply company based in Uppsala, Sweden. Olink AB develops enabling tools and detection technologies to the life science research and diagnostics community. The technologies are available as proprietrary products and services supplied by Olink Bioscience and its licensees.The commercial model combines sales of reagent products along with active out-licensing of novel technologies.

Olink Bioscience first product, Duolink®, is based on in situ PLA™ which is a proximity ligation assay technology, and was launched in June 2007. Duolink enables researchers to use existing antibodies and standard fluorescence or brightfield microscopy to study proteins and protein events at unprecedented resolution in unmodified cells and tissue sections.

Two major outlicensing deals have been signed. In November 2005, Olink AB signed an agreement with Affymetrix Inc (formerly ParAllele Inc) granting limited rights to the Padlock Probe Technology. In October 2007, Olink AB and Applied Biosystems announced a license and collaboration agreement on Proximity Ligation for specific applications in the life science research market.

Olink Bioscience is part owner of  Olink Genomics whos selector technology overcomes the limitations of traditional multiplexed PCR for next generation sequencing applications. For more information visit Olink Genomics.

History

Olink AB was founded by Ulf Landegren, Simon Fredriksson, Mats Nilsson, Mats Gullberg, Jonas Jarvius, Björn Ekström and Mårten Winge in 2004. The company was initially based on a portfolio of 12 patent cases, covering four technologies for advanced analyses of biomolecules pertaining to applications in basic research as well as in routine diagnostics. Today, the portfolio comprises 18 patent cases.

Olink Bioscience is currently funded by licensing revenue and grants, as well as by investments from founders and local investors.

The company is based at Uppsala Science Park in Sweden where 18 employees occupy 430 m² used for offices, labs and production.
