Gastric intrinsic factor (GIF)

Links to databases

Gastric intrinsic factor is a secreted glycoprotein produced by the parietal cells of the stomach. It is necessary for the absorption of vitamin B12 in the small intestine. Defficiencies in gastric intrinsic factor lead to malabsorption of vitamin B12 and subsequent megaloblastic anemia.
