Stem cell factor (SCF)

Links to databases

SCF (c-Kit-ligand) is a cytokine that plays an important role in hematopoiesis, spermatogenesis, and melanogenesis. SCF is up-regulated under inflammatory conditions and by stimulating mast cells it has a role in production and release of histamine, pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines. SCF has been described to be involved in several inflammation-related diseases such as inflammatory bowel disease, rheumatic disease, allergic asthma, etc.
