Fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF-23)

FGF-23 is a growth factor secreted by osteocytes in response to calcitriol (the hormonally active form of vitamin D), and it is involved in the regulation of phosphate concentration in plasma. FGF-23 has been suggested as a regulator of inflammatory cytokine gene expression at the transcriptional level, and it is a suitable protein for performing exploratory analysis for the discovery of new inflammation-related biomarkers.
