Serpin A12 (SERPINA12)

Links to databases

SERPINA12 (commonly referred to as Vaspin) is a member of the Serpin protein superfamily, which comprises a large number of structurally similar protease inhibitors. Serpin A12 is an adipokine that is expressed in visceral adipose tissues, where it modulates insulin action by specifically inhibiting its target protease, KLK7. High plasma levels of SERPINA12 are correlated with insulin resistance in Type II Diabetes.
