Renin (REN)

Links to databases

Renin is a highly specific endopeptidase which generates angiotensin I from angiotensinogen in the plasma, initiating a cascade of reactions that produce an elevation of blood pressure. An over-active renin-angiotension system leads to vasoconstriction and retention of sodium and water. These effects lead to hypertension.
