Sortilin (SORT1)

Links to databases

SORT1 is a trans-Golgi network transmembrane receptor, which binds a number of unrelated ligands that participate in a broad range of cellular processes. Its major roles are as a sorting receptor in the Golgi compartment (required for protein transport from the Golgi apparatus to the lysosomes) and as a clearance receptor on the cell surface. Changes in liver-specific expression levels are known to affect low density lipoprotein cholesterol levels in plasma and are associated with susceptibility to myocardial infarction.
