Natriuretic peptides B (BNP)

Links to databases

BNP is secreted by the ventricles of the heart in response to excessive stretching of heart muscle cells (cardiomyocytes). The main clinical utility of either BNP or NT-BNP is that a normal level rules out acute heart failure in the emergency setting.

Sample type

Detection frequency 0%-20% in tested normal EDTA plasma and serum samples.
