PD-1 ligand 2 is a trans-membrane protein that is essential for T-cell proliferation and IFNG production. This function involves a costimulatory signal that is Programmed cell death protein 1 (PDCD1)-independent. Interaction with PDCD1 inhibits T-cell proliferation by blocking cell cycle progression and cytokine production.
