Assay updates to the Neuro Exploratory panel

Olink® Target 96 Neuro Exploratory offers simultaneous measurement of 92 proteins using just 1 µL of plasma, serum, CSF, or other types of human sample, and includes a combination of exploratory and established markers with a focus on neurology-related diseases, and biological processes such as axon development, neurogenesis and synapse assembly.

This panel is a perfect complement to our neurological disease-focused panel, Olink® Target 96 Neurology, enabling a wider, more exploratory approach to neurological studies.

Olink continuously strives to improve our multiplex biomarker panels, both in terms of technical performance and to provide assays for interesting and relevant proteins. Two assays from the original version of the Neuro Exploratory panel were therefore replaced by two new, high quality assays for proteins of relevance to neurological research. The new assays are:

  • Adhesion G protein-coupled receptor B3 (ADGRB3) UniProt number O60242
    This protein (also called BAI3) is highly expressed in the brain and enriched in the postsynaptic densities, suggesting a role in synapse development. ADGRB3 has been associated with psychiatric disorders and its expression has been shown to be affected by Lithium treatment.
  • Latent-transforming growth factor beta-binding protein 3 (LTBP3) UniProt number Q9NS15
    The cytokine, TGF-beta, plays a central role in the nervous system where it modulates inflammatory responses, influences quiescence in neural stem cells of the hippocampus, and has a role in neurodegenerative disease. TGF-beta is secreted in a latent form, bound to its cleaved propeptide and a latent TGF-beta-binding protein (LTBP). LTBP is crucial for proper folding and secretion of TGF-beta. Upon secretion it will stay bound to the extracellular matrix (ECM) through LTBP until a specific signal triggers the release of active TGF-beta.

These replaced the following two assays:

  • Folate receptor beta (FOLR2), UniProt number P14207
  • Uteroglobin (SCGB1A1), UniProt number P11684.

As data from the Neuro Exploratory panel has accumulated, it became apparent that these two assays would fit much better in a panel with 1:10-dilution than in the Neuro Exploratory panel, which uses undiluted samples.
